Hong Kong Venue Bars Outspoken Pop Star, Fearing Beijing Crackdown

HONG KONG—A significant nonprofit arts heart barred the outspoken pro-democracy Hong Kong pop star Denise Ho from undertaking just days before a scheduled sequence of live shows, as fears develop that a continuing crackdown led by Beijing could stifle creative expression in the metropolis.

In letters shared by the singer on Wednesday, the Hong Kong Arts Centre stated it was pulling her Sept. six-twelve reservation at the venue below a clause that will allow cancellations “where general public buy or general public security would be endangered.”
