Larger Aldi rivals which includes Tesco and Morrisons are the two experimenting with similar technology and there are plans to roll it out if customers react effectively.
Aldi customers will scan a smartphone app when coming into the retailer and just after leaving will get an emailed receipt and be charged routinely using their selected card.
It is recognized the tech will work by checking what shoppers take from shelves, without any scanning of products expected, in a similar way to Amazon’s Clean suppliers.
Giles Hurley, manager of Aldi British isles, mentioned: “We are generally searching to redefine what it signifies to be a price reduction retailer, and the technology associated in this trial will give us a prosperity of learnings.
“We are definitely energized to be tests this idea that will enable shoppers to select from our vary of high-quality products, all available at unbeatable prices, then go away the retailer without possessing to pay out at a until.”
